Mystic Bowie & The Pallbearers - Rebirth / Zimbra / 2002
Mystic Bowie, hailing out of Negril, JA and his backing Band The Pallbearers provide a very diverse listening experience. From blues infected ska tunes like "I am the One" to classic straight one drop riddims in best jamaican style like "Tip Top Toe". Mystic Bowie easily mixes a lot of different sytles to his everpresent reggaebackground, a fact that makes it very worthwhile and enjoyable to listen to this production. Although not very well known or often heard of, Bowie is by no means a newcomer in the reggae business. Being a frequent opening act for such jamaican greats like Toots and the Maytals or Burning Spear, it was just a matter of time before his productions got known to a wider audience outside of Jamaica and the USA. His backing band, The Pallbearers, headed by guitarist Nardi Boi hailing from New Orleans plays a major part in the variety of music that provides the listening experience on this album. Coming from such diverse background as Jamaica, Barbados, the southern USA and the NY area, all the participants influences were sure to be integrated in the music of Mystic Bowie. In conclusion, this album should have something for everyone with a liking to jamaican/caribbean/southern usa music likings. Only thing missing right now for the complete Mystic Bowie experience would be the man himself on stage in a town near yours.
