This month you have a complete Greensleeves Rhythm Sampler washup over the past three releases within our riddim review section: Greensleeves Rhythm Sampler #59-61 - "Kasablanca", "Spanish Fly" and "Tighty Tighty".
Additionally we took a closer look onto PowPow Movements´ latest release: "Blaze" and "Shanty Town" One-Riddim-Samplers. And last but not least german Rootdown Camp released their "Crystal Woman" Riddim you might already know from Nosliw´s recent release "Wie Weit".

In case you may already have heard Nosliw´s track - " Wie Weit" from his recent LP " Mittendrin" this riddim coming from the Rootdown lab might seem familiar to you. On a new selection, now featuring some jamaican and two german artists from Rootdown´s own artiste camp, they now released this easy-going Roots-riddim with a top ranking set of voicings on a 7" collection.
It is noticeable that this is Rootdowns´ first international production after a good row of releases featuring german artists only. Always delivering solid productions in the past, this might be a first attempt for an international breakthrough.

This riddim is our recommendation of the month - we´ll see if it will make it outside Germany.. Best wishes to Rootdown!

With their latest achievement, PowPow managed to compile two of their previous riddims within two nice One-Riddim-Samplers. Blaze on the one side, that was originally released around beginning of 2004, is a solid roots riddim that had quite some attention in europe and internationally through Gentleman´s "Unconditional Love" and the recent Richie Spice - Blood again (The way they living) Video. All tunes from the preceding 7" collection are featured on this album plus one tune that was not within the original release, namely Brusco "Sangue". As a bonus, Powpow also included the above mentioned video on the CD, making it a must have collectors item.

"Shanty Town" was originally released in Spring 2003 and was PowPow´s second Production after the slamming success of "Celebrate". All previously released seven inches are present on this compilation as well as some new (marked with a star within the tracklisting below) that were not included in the original selection. For "Shanty Town" Sampler goes the same as for the "Blaze" Compilation - excellent presentation, nice artwork and a real collector´s item for the lovers of both riddims.

#59 in the Greensleeves Series took the very best of Sly Dunbar and "Computer" Paul Henton latest riddim "Kasablanca". Going over a pulsating yet pushing drumbeat and a unconventional keyboard, it features the cream of the crop like Vybz, Bounty, Elephant, Ward 21, etc. to deliver a packed 21-tune CD. The more knowledgable tracks are that of Vybz´ "Badda dan Dem" and Elli´s "Freaky Life".

Spanish Fly is an easy going latin/mexican flava riddim with extensive spanish horn and guitar sets. This riddim is already rockin´ the dancehalls and a sure shot for the gals. Engineered by the upcoming producerteam The Ballaz, namely Damian Hall and Nigel Whitfield. Although this is their very debut production, they already managed to leave a astonishing mark in today´s dancehalls.

Taking into consideration that this is their debut, they feature a serious line of artists to voice their masterpiece like Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Vybz Kartel, Degree, Voicemail, Ce´Cile, Macka Diamond counteracting to Vybz Kartel´s "Picture this" on the Blackout Riddim with his track "Boopsy", and much more.

Recommended tunes are Bounty´s, Elephant Man´s, Macka Diamond´s, Degree ´s and Ceciles´ tunes.

Produced by aspiring "producer of the year" Donovan "Vendetta" Bennett "Tighty Tighty represents the "bashiest" of this months´ riddim section. Well known since his debuting "Mad Ants" riddim and last but not least his production on Vybz Kartel´s first album "Up to di Time", Donovan managed to leave a heavy mark on todays dancehall scene.

There is little wonder that two of the heaviest tunes are voiced by Vybz Kartel then - "Sumn-fi-Sumn and "Have fi Good". Besides the usual suspects such as Elephant Man (who delivers the title tune), T.O.K., Sizzla, Ward 21 and other big names, you´ll find a variety of up and coming stars like Tami, Razor, Sanjay, and Bugle & Tornado on this 16 track CD-compilation which really sounds promising.
