When I say Mr Vegas claims to be Kokane and Merciless is complaining about corrupt reggae biz, guess what i'm talking about. Right! Rigo & Tito from the Swedish lable Topaz brought you theKokane Riddim.

Nuff people might allready know the flagship tune from Mr Vegas feat. AYO called Kokane since it was featured on Vegas' last Album. I never heard it often on german dances but still everytime i came across it i thought of it as a well done mix of dancehall vibes and hip hop beats. Now more versions on the Kokane riddim got released, including Beenie Mans To Be Loved, Cecile's Love u got, Mr. Lexx Slam and, mentioned above, Merciless' Believe it or not (Full tracklist below). And in my opinion these are tunes u need in your selection. For the rest, i'd call them average dancehall material.

As for the lyrics, i guess everybody will find the one or the other tune interesting, since we got a lot of topics on the riddim. Mentioned earlier Vegas is talking about what kokane does and especially does not.Beenie Man comes in again with the girl topic, and we all know thats what he can do best. (Un)Fortunately i don't know the Lady's voice in the Beenie Man tune - but lemme tell u : I think it wasn't the best choice! It just kinda disturbs the flow of the song. It's not really the voice itself but how it was used in the song. My personal favourite is Merciless' "Believe it or not" which maybe open some peoples eyes about whats going on in the reggae business for years!

So, allthough we got some serious lyrics, we still have a nice, more or less happy riddim (talking about the instrumental) and I'm sure it'll move some feet at primetime on dances!

So, we got a nice riddim here, though i guess many people need to hear it more than once to really like it as much as i do by now.
Some of you may heard of the producers' names before in relation to european hip hop productions, which, of course, would explain the hip hop touch of the Kokane riddim. But still the Reggae-Artists fit damn good on it.

All in all i'll give it 3,5 out of 5 stars, just because i needed some time to really like it and i only REALLY like 5 of the 11 available tunes.

Soundquake is the official distributor for this selection, so head over to their online shop and purchase the tunes there.
