Seeed's great Night Nurse remake - released as a selection voiced by top-a-top artists. Germaican landed another top release with this one.

Doctor's Darling Riddim / Germaican Records / 2002
After several great dancehall productions, Germaican Records present you a roots riddim selection for the first time, the Doctors Darling riddim. Played and produced by the Berlin-based Seeed, a reggae band consisting of whole 11 people, combining chart success and media-award-winning with uplifting reggae-dub vibes. And Germaican Records, known for their Jamaica connections, did the best to let some artists from JA as well as from Europe voice it.

The riddim itself is based on the Night Nurse riddim, made popular by Gregory Isaacs' same tune. The new dubby conquerers Seeed spiced it up by some uplifting horns, a distorted bassline, DJ cuts and deeper drums. All in all it reminds me on the Massive B's Cuss Cuss remake from 1996, which means very much to me as one of the best roots riddim remakes ever. Nice to see Germany can hold up with such competition... For sure the best roots riddim made in Germany so far !

The artists are, in opposition to some other Germaican productions, very well chosen. Anthony B did a remake of his Waan Back together with Seeed. A really big tune, already released as a EP/CDM in Germany under the name of Waterpumpee under a big label. It features the old-known Waan Back chorus sung by Anthony B and some addition lyrics by Seeed, partly in German and partly in English/Patois. It's just a pitty that Anthony B doesn't do an own stanza, just the chorus.
The other tunes don't need to hide as well... Tanya Stephens, finally voicing a riddim after some years pause, delivers a beautiful lovetune in which she expresses her affection to a married rudebwoy. Great lyrics, great flow, I'm sure Tanya will be able to do a comeback easily with more tunes like this one.
Next artist is Germany-based Nosliw, whom many of you already heared on the Racer selection and several compilations. I'm surprised to hear a conscious singers-tune from him, as I just heard some ladies-tunes from him so far, and I must say that he manages to sing on a roots riddim surprisingly good. The lyrics are really remarkable, chanting today's Babylon down without the use of religious dogmata. Perhaps one of the best German pieces of reggae lyrics I heard so far.More of that !
Next one featured is the German deejay-veteran Dr.Ring-Ding, delivering the riddim's namegiving tune, digging up Gregory's topic of a sexy nurse. Nice to hear the Doctor chatting Patois again, leaving German lyrics aside for a time. Nothing against German lyrics, but I like Ring-Ding singing Patois much more, it just fits him better.
Last, but by far not least, artist is the Germany-based female deejay of Jamaican origin, Crystal Axe, who could already be heard in combination with Black Kappa in Party Time, a commercial single released on BMG and getting heavy rotation on MTV. On Doctors Darling she delivers a conscious tune in singin' style. I'm a bit disappointed about this one, as I like her deejay style on Party On very much and expected her Germaican tune to be deejayed as well. But it's far from a weak tune, just not what I have been expecting.

All in all, a really great production, which makes the World Report flop totally forgotten. Now even the last sceptics must recognize that Germaican Records run tings, and I say that not because Germaican supported us so heavily recently, but because this selection convinced me totally. Not many records deserve the 5-stars-rate, but this selection sure does.
