A riddim by Pionear's cousin Tom, featuring some international artists. Nice stuff!
Here we got the second selection produced by Tom, the cousin of Germaican label owner Pionear. After his more-or-less successful World Report selection with German artists only, this time he comes up with a small but fine line-up carrying some big international players. The top-a-top lineup already showed some effect: several 45s from this selection are topping Germany's recordstores sales charts.
While previous digital Germaican riddims like Bitch and Geisha were more from the dark and experimental side, this one has a rather easy melody and straight drums. The synths and pluck-strings are an ear-catcher without being too cheesy, and the drums are following the traditional bass-bass-snare scheme without much rhythmic experiments. We don't deal with a riddim revolution here, but it's a steady party riddim able to get the crowd wining.
On the tune side, first of all we have a first TOK cut on a German label here. A catchy gal tune, not necessarily suiting the highest expectations, but surely not TOK's worst one by far. The best tunes are delivered by the two Jamaican ladies, Cecile and Tanya Stephens. Both tunes have the power to be top-a-top, and the sales charts are showing it already. Tuff female deejay styles that match the riddim perfectly. On the other hand, the Dr. Ring-Ding tune is a total disappointment. I wonder how this man manages to make tunes of that different quality in such a short period of time. After delivering one of the best German religious tunes ever 'pon the Geisha and another not less great tune 'pon the Elemental, veteran Ring-Ding ends in a lyrical pit with this one. Well, check it yourself, and let's hope the German deejay veteran delivers proper stuff again soon. Last tune of this selection is Nosliw's Oh My Gal, which already got re-voiced 'pon another version on his EP. As I already said, one of the best German gyal-tunes, and it sounds good on this riddim as well.
All in all, a fine selection that might give your massive a good time. All tunes (with one exception) are pretty good, and well, isn't it a positive thing ? Enough recent selections do it the other way, bringing a whole heap of garbage tunes and perhaps 1-2 good ones. This one is solid Germaican quality. You can order this selection at
Germaican Records webshop or from
Soundquake distribution.
