Corrida Riddim / One Love Hi Pawa / 2003

One Love Hi Pawa, probably the biggest sound from Italy as we know it, comes to present their new Riddim named "Corrida". Killaswitch reviewed it and presents some snippets..
One Love Hi Pawa, the leading Italian soundsystem and record label, comes up with a brand new selection, produced by noone else than the German producer Beat Schmieda, who was already responsible for the rootsy Elemental selection. This time, the selection keeps a dancehall pace and features some big Jamaican artists.

Soundwise, the riddim strongly reminds of Pow Pow's Celebrate, though it might me just a coincidence. Latin guitar riffs, strings and a piano are building a nice melodious vibe, the kinda dry, but still powerful drums give it the pressure. Although I rate Bead Schmieda's achievement as a roots producer higher, this is still a nice dancehall vibe. Nothing revolutionary, but solid still.

Concerning the tunes, some of them are really heavy. Anthony B steps away from his current dance/party lyrics spree and delivers some serious pro-education lyrics. Luciano shows his vocal talent once again with nice cultural vibes. But the most outstanding tune is coming from Turbulence. He's showing his wit and versatility by making his girl-tune sound like an Italian something, making the listener wonder at times if it's Turbulence The Future or Eros Ramazotti. What may sound surprising or even weird is that this mixture of Italian-esque elements and bobo lyrics really makes sense, forming one of Turbulence's most intriguing tunes. The rather unknown Sugar Roy delivers a pretty good girl-tune as well, while the tunes by Richie Spice and Thriller Jenna are just average.All in all, this is a selection shining with some outstanding tunes, although one could expect more. Definetely something for the soundboys for testing at dances, it might work very well. Order these singles at One Love or Soundquake.
