So, do you like HipHop-Refixes?! Even if you donīt - this one is worth taking a deeper look for sure...
Talizmen Sound is an upcoming sound outta Cologne, Germany. Though they don't see themselves as a soundsystem but rather as dj's playing dancehall, and you can see it in their latest mixtape/cd, 'Dancehall Madness'. This tight mix consists of 96 dancehall tunes and is pretty unusual in some aspects.
First of all, let me state that these guys certainly CAN mix. The transfers between the tunes are almost perfect, a thing that's not that common when it comes to dancehall mixes, and it's even spiced up with various DJ tricks rarely to be heard on a dancehall mix. On the one hand, these tricks are really professional done, on the other it's quite questionable if all those backspins, beat jugglings and vocal scratches really fit the nature of dancehall. One might never forget the importance of the lyrics, and with all those DJ playarounds, sometimes the original sense of the lyrics gets lost. But despite this fact making this mix quite controversial, it's mostly enjoyable. Skilled hiphop remixes (and even one drum'n'bass remix, with a doubtful quality though), skilled overall mixing, intelligent track-choice. Though this mix is nothing for the roots faction, as only hardcore dancehall is being played, there are some interesting tunes in there you won't hear on a mediocre mixtape. The negative aspect though, besides the excessive DJ triack, is perhaps the overuse of the lickshot box, which sometimes quite disturb the else fluent mix. Nevertheless, a quite unusual mix which you should certainly purchase if you have nothing against dancehall tunes mixed in turntableism style.
