Massive B. on di Decks
About 14h on Saturday doors opened an the event took itīs beginning with more or less big sounds from Europe like King Kong (CH), Inner Zion (D),
City Lock (D),
Lightning Sound (D),
Massive Joey (D),
Soundboys Destiny (D) and Lionheart (D) as early Warm-Up Sounds. Those Sounds did their best to bring the - from friday already partly damaged - massive to rock and already started playing dancehall-sets that should follow us over the whole event. "Alternatively" the Dub-Massive started to run itīs very private festival in the Dub-Shelter, which - not at least thanks to the Abassi Soundsystem - was shaking from top to bottom from heavy basslines.
First true higlights started to show up with Barney Millah longside MC Scarra Mucci, the only Soca-Set of the event and an exquisite and well-selected set from Ska to modern Dancehall.
Ward 21 live on Stage
Second highlight appeared about the same time - Soundsystem and Producer-Legend
Massive B. appearing with Bobby Konders (
Check Konders-Interview on Cla.at!) and and Jabba lgs. Burro Banton in the small tent. It was my first chance to see Bobby Konders live and i was quite impressed by a ..letīs say very "unconventional" Show and Kondersī very own presentation. Concrete: Bobby took every chance to wheel back, more than often wheeling even back onto the slipmat and making the needle jump - To put it short: technically imperfect as it seemed. Anyway, Konders and Jabba energized the whole crowd with a show that was second to none.
Burro Banton Live
Just short time after Massive B. one of the few Live-highlights appeared: Ward 21 backed by Barney Millah as Selektah. Besides the bad communication between that band and the backing Ward 21 delivered a energetic show as expected, if you have ever seen them before. Mostly for the massive that never had the chance to view them live before this must have been one of the outstanding acts overall. All others will have noticed that there was far too much confusion, Ward did for sure better shows. Totally m?isplaced was the guest appearance by Frankfurt very own Singjay "D-Flame" during Wardīs show. At least the whole crowd including Ward and Barney Millah had a very good time from the first to the last row.
Rory and Wee Pow from Stonelove
During the night Massive B. played a second set that was in no time behind the first, but already included some replays of the first set. Absolutey outrageous was Burro Banton, backed by Massive B., performing all of his great hits and returning back to stage several times after the show officially being ended. Burro was definitely THE live-highlight of the evening, outdoing Ward 21 with a far too short one-man-show by far.
Around the same time next big sounds appeared in the small tent:
Stone Love and Bass Odyssey. Veteran-Sound Stonelove appearing with Wee Pow and Rory couldnīt really convince anyone who heard Stonelove-Tapes/Shows before, as they did a Standard-Set comparably to others like Massive B. for example. Overall there was much of the expected energy and long-awaited Duplates lacking.
Reggae Ambassador David Rodigan
Bass Odyssey, represented by Squingy and Father Keith, could only fulfil parts of the visitors expectations. Compared to other soundsystems expectations may have been to high - And B.O. just could not fulfill that. We drew back to the other tent at that time for the benefit of the Ward 21 and Massive B. Shows and enjoyed a great time as described before there.
In the meantime we took a little peep over to
Fireballīs set, that put the crowd against a pretty hard competitor - represented by Massive B. and Burro - definitely on fire. After the Burro-Performance we needed some time to rest and gain some energy to make it to the grand finale of the night, therefore missing seconds set from Stonelove and Bass Odyssey, that from hearsay shouldnīt have been much different than the first sets.
The location at Hahn Airbase
David Ro?digan himself finished the Dance with some - for him - typical show: Reggae-Edutainment at itīs best! Once again the "Reggae-Ambassador" (
Check interview with David Rodigan pon Cla.at!) could bring the whole massive to skank, rock, juggle, bounce and dance. Leading through a show from reggaeīs early days to contemporary reggae, he held quite some speeches and doing nearly every dance - Great fun for all involved. Indeed it had everything to make the people have a great time, but same goes here: Rodi did nothing unexpected if you ever had the chance to visit one of his shows. Followed by Dancehall-Riddims we got back to the tent-yard and finished a great day, backed by heavy bassdrums still coming from the Festival-Tents and looking forward to another day of Reggae-Soundculture at itīs Best.
