"This Festival will be a trial for the German Reggae Scene, if it will be able to adapt to the Soundsystem-Culture"

This quote somehow reflects the high expectations with which the "old dogs" inna german dancehall-business came to David Rodigans 25th Anniversary Bashment. Everyone who already had the chance to watch David Rodigan live would just have to be looking forward to a tour through 25 years of Ska/Rockers/Reggae and Dancehall-History. Everyone who might remember one of our recent Internet-Broadcasts from David Rodigans Jubilee Tour alongside Veteran Legend Cutty Six million ways to die Ranks, would just have to be looking forward to Reggae-Edutainment on a highest level. Within this show Rodigan led - with speeches about the making, history and context of certain tunes - through a virtual cultural expedition from the very early ages of Reggae to Rockers, "Foundation", Jungle and last but not least recent Dancehall-Tunes.

Under the motto "David Rodigans 25 Anniversary Bashment" hundreds of european Rudebwoys and Gyals flocked to an event featuring many big international Sounds, amongst those Killamanjaro, Bass Odyssey, Saxon and lots more ( Check Playlist on the Festivalpage!), willing to commemorate David´s work of a lifetime. Most of these top-notch sounds had already played a dozen times or more alongside Rodigan - So there was nuff history to be shared with the audience. At least we thought so, but more about that later on...

Parts of the Cla.at Crew arrived at the former Airbase Hahn on friday already and were welcome very friendly by the bredren and sistren from the dhm-Yard. The camping site itself was a pure highlight compared to those at summerjam, Splash or others - Open Area, plain ground and nuff space for all participants. Overall the whole area evoked a certain feeling that was beneficial to the event - in Hahn, an old Army Airbase, there are Bomb-Shelters spread all over the place, once built to hold space for military aircraft as well as fuel, ammunition etc. Everything felt like brutal Bass and an upcoming Soundwar under the burning sun - kinda everything to make an original carribean Bashment complete!

Parts of the old Airbase area where the event was held were separated and two big tents and one Bombshelter should serve as Stages for the Soundsystems to come up on Saturday and Sunday. Little problems at the beginning to get drinking water and some annoyance about the shower plant, which allowed refreshment for 1,50 € (but only from Saturday on) and offering 5 slots for each gender - for the overall expected 8000 people! Besides, quite enough toilets were placed and those were cleaned more or less regularly during the whole festival. Papers and comparable were just impossible to get as local authorities made all vendors of such stuff pack in and leave the area. As we got to know - just around the corner was a police school and it seemed that they just took every chance to place a test for it´s pupils.

Anyway, we spend the first night within the circles of our Crew/Yard with our own music, good and funny discussions and some sweet jamaican rum until the sun rose.. Inna already glowing sun first soundchecks were done and the massive on the camping site could not longer hold back and pumped the latest dancehall-tunes over and over again through (partly) massive car-stereos. Only few persons seemed interested in slower or more "cultural worthy" tapes.
